Fundraise update:

http://www.sumonaphotography.com/blog/2015/6/fundraise-update-june-2015

Early morning, I woke up to a phone call followed by shocking news - devastating Earthquake has crippled my hometown. The 7.8 magnitude quake has already claimed 8600+ lives, caused massive destruction and wiped out villages and world heritage sites. Nepal is in dire need of any help we can get.  No action is not an option during this terrible tragedy.  So being a photographer, I naturally inclined to raise funds through selling my prints. 100% of the net proceeds will go to the relief of Nepal earthquake victims.  All photos will be printed through a professional lab.

Although afar, I could not stay untouched by the terrible tragedy back home. My family and relatives are safe. They had been spending the night outdoors in open ground despite the pouring rain, due to strong aftershocks. I would like to believe that the worst has passed by but the consequences of such catastrophe is far beyond just the quake; rebuilding and reconstruction will take billions of dollars and several years.

For now, the current focus is to provide immediate relief to the Earthquake victims.  They are in need of medical attention, search & rescue services, basic needs such as clean water, food, clothes, blankets and much more.

So, I am hopeful that you will help make this fundraise a success by purchasing my photograph(s).  I will be transparent with funds so we all know exactly where the money is donated. The print sale will continue till end of May.  I am offering 50% off shipping.  Just type HELPNEPAL at checkout.

Amidst chaos and despair, it has been a blessing to see the world come together as one to help Nepal. Let's all
join hands together and make a difference!  United we can!

$1 = 100 rupees. A little goes a long way. Every dollar counts!
Thank you,
Sumona Balla Malla

Angry Bird attacks

April 13, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

Morning after a rainy night ahh so refreshing!  To enjoy the cool morning, the better half and I decided to sit outside on the porch sipping some hot tea.  All of a sudden a bird swooped in over us.  We chuckled and continued to talk thinking it was just one time thing.  But the bird chirped in fury and then headed straight for my husband in attack mode.  Angry bird meant business!

Startled by the bird, he stepped back splashing tea all over his face and clothes (luckily the tea was lukewarm :) It was a moment to remember.  We were surprised why any bird would be so angry.  Later we found out there was a baby bird on the tree nearby.  Amazing to see parent's natural instinct to protect the baby.

We were scared (ofcourse right :) and stepped in the house. I rushed for my camera and started to capture the birds.  Most photos were from inside as every time I stepped out, the angry bird would fly near by warning us.  As if it were saying "I'm watching you"!

Mama bird brings in food.

Angry bird shows us who's the boss!

This went on from morning until the afternoon, when finally the baby bird gathered courage to jump down branch by branch until on the ground.  It then gently walked away occasionally fluttering it's wings.

Farewell little one!  Stay away mama bird!  :)

Nifty Fifty

Guess who's excited about a new lens, yesssss it's me, it's me *jumps with joy.  Funnily, my friend asks which contact lens are you getting so excited about?  LOL.

Welcome Nifty Fifty, the newest addition to my photography gear.  I have been wanting a prime lens for a while.  (Prime lens have a fixed focal length so zooming in/out equals walking near/far from the subject :)  Camera + workout gear ehh, can't beat that.

Generally, I do not know or care about gadgets and gear but I had heard a lot about the prime lens and how it boosts your creative side and makes you think and visualize the shot.

I could not wait to give it a try right away so I just walked around my home looking for something to take photos of.  I need to get used to the large aperture, lots of light and zero zoom.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I could not find a photo with hearts, cards or chocolates.  So, I chose this photo because I think it is super cute and full of love.   How many of you went awwwww?  A little story behind this photo.  I was nowhere near the family instead was far up and away in a building with my tele-zoom.  I saw the dad setting up camera on the stroller after writing in the sand.  Ofcourse, I have to be nosy so I kept zooming in then started to take photos.  It looks like we both almost pressed the shutter at the same time.

The photo brings joy to me and I hope it has the same impact on you!  After all, isn't Valentine's day all about bringing happiness to each other?

Happy Valentine's day!

Spread the love

Although I was at a destination spot, Destin, I was not feeling it.  Maybe because it was off season the place just was not appealing; it  seemed dead.  Sometimes I wonder if I am just so moody that no matter what if I don't feel it, I don't.  One of my excuses, I'm a creative person, so I can get away with being moody, okayyy! :)

So anyway, as we were strolling down the almost empty boardwalk, I stopped and took some photos of birds, boats, handy man fixing a house and some vibrant orangy red fishes interestingly or disgustingly hung for display.

Then as we were leaving, we came across a humongous tree that had branches spread out wide as if it were reaching out with its arms wide open.  I sure could feel the love this time.

Out of everything else in Destin, weirdly, I was awestruck by this tree.  I just stood there mesmerized and was like, wow, look at that tree, it's amazing.  Ofcourse, I might've been tagged crazy.  Surely, not the first time.  Once again, I can get away with being crazy coz I am an artist lol.  So nevertheless, I ended of taking photos of the tree from different angles and this is one of my favorite.

Hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed!  Spread the love!  Peace4all!
